CODED AN ADBLOCKER OUT OF NOWHERE!

What I did was develop the immediate response: an adblocker!

adLibere

Literally. This was completely intrusive.

I decided to sit down and watch Downfall (2004), but God, the ads on the site were awful!! Literally dozens of pop-up gambling ads; whatever I clicked, I got redirected to unholy sites whose names I won't even mention!!

It was unacceptable, as these also interrupted the movie for a defined amount of time again and again, meaning I was going to watch not one, BUT two gambling ads, or whatever the site owner saw appropriate, and this was going to continue till the end!

I told myself: "Is it really this easy nowadays? The access to these things, and how easily they appeal to people?"

This question was going to stay in my mind, as I genuinely wanted to research this.

What I did was develop the immediate response: an adblocker!

I deliberately left out legitimate ad services, such as YouTube's, and focused on pop-up, cosmetic, and overlay ads. I also took coding countermeasures, since ad-blocker detection is not that hard for someone to think of and implement.

It was done by Sunday evening: 100% on the TurtleNeck ad-blocker test, and 92% on SuperAdBlocker. That 92% was the legitimate services I left alone, and one or two things that could, and actually did, break the functionality of websites.

Named it adLibere. Libere means "free of, independently" in Latin, and ad is advertisement with a twist: ad also means "to" or "towards" in Latin, so it has a double meaning.

Good weekend project!!
